Water/Wastewater Project Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Prepares technical memoranda, reports, calculations, correspondence, designs, drawings, specifications, permit applications, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates for simpler projects or specific tasks within more complex projects under the close supervision of senior staff.

• Aids the Project Manager and other senior personnel in adhering to project schedules and budgets for less complex projects or specific tasks in more intricate projects by consistently reporting on project advancement and identifying additional work beyond the contractual Scope of Work.

• Collaborates with subconsultants under the guidance of the Senior Project Engineer or Project Manager.

• May take on the role of Lead Designer for simpler projects or specific tasks in more complex projects to deliver a comprehensive and coordinated project by engaging with and effectively communicating with the project team.

• Examines calculations, design assumptions, and concepts within the discipline to ensure quality control.

• Contributes technical insights into proposals for less complex projects or discrete tasks in more complex projects by developing scopes of work, budgets, and schedules based on historical data or experience.

• Aids in creating technical presentations.

• Engages in client meetings and/or technical presentations.

• Operates effectively and efficiently within established hourly budgets while monitoring personal performance.

• Acquires expertise in relevant local, state, and federal regulations.

• Cultivates and maintains positive relationships with clients on technical matters through regular and effective communication as directed by the Project Manager.

• Oversees fieldwork activities such as surveying, GPS data collection, infrastructure inspections and assessments, water sampling, and construction observation.

• Supports construction administration by tracking and reviewing submittals, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, compiling daily and weekly construction reports, and monitoring construction schedules.

• Provides updates to a Senior Project Engineer and/or Project Manager.

• Fosters and maintains positive working relationships with staff and offers on-the-job training and mentoring for entry-level engineers and interns.

• Exhibits advanced skills and proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and other relevant technical software specific to the discipline.

• Develops increasingly effective writing and presentation abilities and can convey data that supports technical decisions and the reasoning behind them.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related engineering discipline along with over 2 years of experience in water supply or wastewater engineering design.

• Proficient in AutoCAD; ArcGIS knowledge is a plus.

• Previous experience in engineering consulting is highly preferred.

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT), PE License, or actively pursuing PE registration in the State(s) where Apex operates, or the ability to obtain it through reciprocity.

• Capability to effectively communicate and interact within project teams and with clients, direct activities of less experienced staff, and demonstrate strong written and verbal skills.

• A valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
