VP, Product – Data Governance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee Walker & Dunlop’s Data Governance Office, which includes governance processes, stewardship frameworks, and practices for cross-functional collaboration.

• Develop and manage the strategic roadmap for enterprise data governance capabilities, covering data discovery, classification, lineage, privacy, access governance, and AI governance.

• Collaborate with Legal, Risk, Compliance, and Information Security to create governance policies, standards, controls, and monitoring practices.

• Work alongside Engineering, Infrastructure, and Data Product teams to embed governance capabilities throughout the data lifecycle.

• Direct initiatives for enterprise data inventory, classification, and lineage to enhance visibility and safeguard sensitive and regulated data.

• Assist in privacy and data rights processes to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.

• Set up governance and oversight practices for AI-enabled systems, focusing on data usage, traceability, and suitable review controls.

• Define and report governance metrics, encompassing program maturity, data quality, policy adherence, and control effectiveness.

• Build and nurture the data governance team and steward network across the organization.

• Relay governance priorities, progress, and risks to executive leadership and key stakeholders.

• Collaborate with business teams to promote the adoption of governance practices and enhance the accessibility of governed data assets.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related discipline; an advanced degree or relevant certifications are preferred.

• Over 10 years of experience in product management, data governance, data management, privacy, or related leadership roles.

• Proven experience in building or advancing enterprise data governance programs within regulated or complex operational environments.

• Familiarity with enterprise governance platforms such as Securiti.ai, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, OneTrust, BigID, or similar technologies.

• Demonstrated experience in collaborating cross-functionally with Legal, Risk, Compliance, Information Security, Engineering, and business stakeholders.

• Experience in commercial real estate, financial services, lending, capital markets, or similarly regulated sectors is preferred.

• Strong knowledge of data governance, data management, privacy, and data risk practices.

• Awareness of regulatory and compliance considerations pertaining to enterprise data management.

• Capability to translate governance requirements into scalable processes, tools, and user experiences.

• Understanding of modern data ecosystems, including analytics, cloud platforms, operational systems, and AI-enabled technologies.

• Excellent product and program management skills, including prioritization, execution, and stakeholder alignment.

• Outstanding cross-functional collaboration and relationship-building abilities.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the capacity to convey information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
