VP, Head of Legal, Compliance & Regulation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Take ownership and lead zerohash’s strategy for licensing and registration throughout North America (U.S., Canada, Mexico) and other jurisdictions in the Americas including Brazil, Argentina, and Bermuda.

• Propel the attainment of new licenses, registrations, and regulatory approvals, acting as the primary accountable executive for licensing milestones in the specified regions.

• Cultivate and manage relationships with regulatory agencies and licensing authorities across various jurisdictions, including direct participation in examinations, inquiries, and supervisory discussions.

• Collaborate with the SVP of Global Regulation and zerohash’s legal team to ensure regional strategy aligns with the global regulatory framework.

• Keep abreast of the evolving regulations surrounding digital assets, stablecoins, payments, and MSB across the Americas and translate those insights into actionable compliance and licensing strategies.

• Design, implement, and continually enhance risk-based compliance programs that function across multiple jurisdictions and align with zerohash’s overall compliance risk posture.

• Oversee and manage MLROs, heads of compliance, and compliance personnel throughout the Americas (Argentina, Bermuda, Canada, Brazil, and Mexico).

⛳️ Requirements

• J.D. or an equivalent legal degree from an accredited institution; active bar membership is preferred.

• Over 10 years of progressive experience in legal, compliance, and/or regulatory roles within a regulated financial institution, fintech, or financial services firm.

• Proven experience in owning or leading licensing and registration processes across multiple U.S. states and/or international jurisdictions.

• Extensive knowledge of AML/BSA regulations, MSB requirements, and multi-jurisdictional regulatory compliance frameworks.

• Experience in managing MLROs, heads of compliance, or equivalent local compliance officers across distributed teams.

• Demonstrated ability to design and operate risk-based compliance programs in complex, multi-licensed environments.

• Background in KYB/KYC, EDD, customer risk profiling, and compliance outsourcing and vendor management.

• Strong executive presence with the capability to engage credibly with regulators, external counsel, senior leadership, and institutional clients.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; adept at translating complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable frameworks.

• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

• Comfortable working across time zones in a remote-first environment, maintaining availability during core U.S. Eastern Time hours.
