This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +25 more states.
• Lead and expand a high-performing engineering organization by fostering deep trust, identifying organizational strengths, and creating career growth pathways along with structural modifications necessary to enhance performance.
• Participate actively and credibly in discussions related to system design and architecture, assisting senior engineers in navigating intricate technical trade-offs across our platform (Ruby on Rails, React, iOS/Android), service boundaries, and contemporary infrastructure investments.
• Drive the integration of AI and autonomous capabilities into our software development lifecycle, which includes assessing new technical infrastructure, guiding teams through change management, and establishing workflows, testing methodologies, and QA standards essential for safely boosting shipping velocity.
• Oversee the Engineering department's delivery and operational excellence, ensuring reliable execution, high quality, and ongoing improvement of technical health and process discipline.
• Collaborate closely with the CPTO, SVP of Product, Design, Data, and Operations to align product vision with technical strategy and to achieve cohesive customer and business outcomes.
• Manage the financial health of the engineering department, including headcount, contractors, software, and infrastructure budgets.
• Strong technical credibility stemming from the ability to engage constructively in architecture, system design, and engineering quality discussions as a collaborative peer to senior engineers and technical leaders.
• Experience across modern web, mobile, cloud, and marketplace-oriented environments, with the capability to reason across Ruby on Rails, React, native iOS and Android clients, and modern cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP).
• Proven experience in evolving developer workflows to utilize automation and AI agents, with a comprehensive understanding of how these tools influence code quality, security, and velocity, along with a successful history of driving developer adoption.
• Demonstrated leadership at scale, including managing engineering managers, designing organizational structures for teams of 30-60 engineers, and making intentional talent decisions to enhance team health.
• Thoughtful change leadership with the resilience to implement organizational or cultural transformations with empathy, clarity, and a proven ability to engage skeptical teams.
• Strong business and product focus, with a record of balancing technical hygiene, reliability, architectural investments, operational realities, and immediate customer and business needs.
• Exceptional asynchronous communication skills, highlighting clear written documentation and structured delegation that enables remote engineering teams to function with high autonomy.
