This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Take charge of complete engineering execution: planning the roadmap, managing sprint cadence, ensuring release quality, and overseeing cross-team dependencies.
• Collaborate with Product teams to align engineering capabilities with product priorities; proactively highlight honest trade-offs.
• Foster a culture characterized by high velocity and deep trust — prioritize rapid shipping, quick learning, and efficient fixing.
• Spearhead the engineering strategy for incorporating LLMs, agentic workflows, and AI-native development methodologies into Ocrolus products at scale.
• Promote the use of modern developer productivity tools and AI-enhanced engineering workflows across all teams.
• Establish standards for AI output quality, manage hallucination control, oversee cost governance, and ensure production reliability.
• Accelerate the idea-to-ship timeline for GenAI features; set high standards for transitioning from prototype to production.
• Be responsible for the technical roadmap concerning distributed systems, platform architecture, scalability, and reliability within your engineering domain.
• Set and uphold engineering standards regarding code quality, observability, incident response, and security.
• Lead and expand a distributed engineering organization across the US and India as one of three VP Engineering leaders; closely collaborate with peer VPs under the CTO.
• Oversee directors and senior managers; mentor them to become leaders who can grow with the company.
• Establish the hiring standards, develop the interview process, and attract senior talent in a competitive AI-driven market.
• Represent engineering at the executive level; contribute to discussions on technology execution, associated risks, and investments.
• 14+ years of experience in software engineering, including at least 5 years in engineering leadership; has successfully scaled through Series C or similar growth phases.
• Strong individual contributor background — advanced through the Architect or Principal Engineer path with significant ownership of architecture, system design, and technical decision-making.
• Practical experience in deploying AI/ML systems to production: including LLMs, RAG, agentic workflows, or document intelligence — not merely in an oversight role.
• Demonstrated capability to build and scale large-scale distributed platforms with stringent availability and reliability requirements.
• Experience partnering with a CTO or CEO on technical strategy; comfortable in an executive role.
• Extensive knowledge in distributed systems and cloud-native microservices architecture at scale (AWS preferred).
• Remote-first culture grounded in Empathy, Curiosity, Humility, and Ownership.
