This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.
• Serve as the final checkpoint prior to submission.
• Assess completed returns for 1040, 1120, 1120-S, and 1065 — both federal and multi-state.
• Verify K-1s, capital accounts, basis, at-risk amounts, §199A classification, and reasonable compensation where applicable.
• Reconcile book-to-tax adjustments, depreciation schedules, and carryforwards (NOL, capital loss, AMT, PALs).
• Validate apportionment, nexus, composite/PTE elections, and specific state-related nuances.
• Ensure e-filing readiness: forms, signatures, acknowledgments, and extensions.
• Identify discrepancies, errors, or ambiguous treatments in prepared returns.
• Compose clear, actionable review notes that preparers can address without needing further clarification.
• Collaborate with preparers until resolutions are reached; verify corrections prior to final approval.
• Escalate technical inquiries to U.S.-based colleagues when necessary.
• Address client inquiries regarding specific line items, calculations, or filings on the prepared return.
• Clearly articulate results without providing advisory or planning suggestions.
• Redirect advisory inquiries to the appropriate individuals.
• Maintain audit-ready workpapers and documentation trails.
• Extensive experience in reviewing and/or preparing U.S. tax returns for 1040, 1120, 1120-S, and 1065.
• In-depth knowledge of state tax filings across various jurisdictions.
• High level of accuracy and professional judgment; comfortable taking final responsibility for filed returns.
• Strong communication skills for both client-facing (return-specific) and internal communications.
• Experience with Drake tax software is preferred.
• Proficient in written and spoken English; possesses a client-facing demeanor.
• Comfortable working during U.S. business hours (night shift, based in the Philippines).
• Preferred (nice to have):
• CPA designation is strongly preferred.
• Experience with R&D tax credits (Form 6765).
• Familiarity with NYC local tax filings.
• Previous experience in a review or supervisory tax role.
