• Perform in-depth analysis of merchant applications, encompassing financial statements, processing history, and KYC documentation.
• Authenticate business legitimacy through entity formation documents, EIN verification, and validation of ownership structure.
• Assess creditworthiness, processing behavior, and potential exposure risks associated with both credit card and ACH transactions.
• Identify and escalate high-risk or atypical business models to the Director of CRU for further examination.
• Maintain detailed documentation of underwriting decisions, ensuring adherence to internal policies and regulatory standards.
• Engage with merchants to obtain missing information, resolve discrepancies, or offer feedback on necessary improvements.
• Respond efficiently and professionally to inquiries related to applications and proactively assist applicants throughout the process.
• Inform merchants about underwriting expectations and provide customized advice on best practices to enhance application success.
• Collaborate with Compliance and Risk Analysts to facilitate in-depth risk investigations or chargeback assessments.
• Work alongside CRU leadership to enhance risk models, underwriting criteria, and approval matrices.
• Mentor and assist junior team members by evaluating applications, providing constructive feedback, and leading knowledge-sharing sessions.
• 2–5 years of experience in KYC/KYB, compliance, onboarding, or underwriting within a payments, fintech, or financial services setting.
• Proficient in identity verification processes, including the review of business formation documents, beneficial ownership, and government-issued IDs.
• Familiar with AML/BSA regulatory frameworks, sanctions screening (OFAC), and customer due diligence (CDD/EDD) obligations.
• Confident in reviewing business models and legal structures, able to validate entity legitimacy and anticipated transaction behavior.
• Detail-oriented with an understanding of the significance of regulatory compliance during onboarding and ongoing monitoring.
• Skilled in communicating with clients to gather and validate sensitive documentation while upholding a high level of professionalism and care.
• Excel in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and possess a mindset focused on continuous improvement in workflows, tools, and processes.
• Bonus: Experience with compliance tools such as Alloy, Middesk, ComplyAdvantage, or similar vendor platforms.
