Unattended Ground Sensors (UGS) Specialist – Part-time, On-call

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Provide on-call support for urgent operational needs as required.

• Maintain a thorough understanding of sensor capabilities and their applications in border security operations.

• Assist with inventory management, deployment, and maintenance of UGS systems across various terrains and conditions.

• Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance, including alignment checks, inspections, and sensor testing.

• Offer technical support during UGS operations and train team members on system usage and maintenance.

• Diagnose and address malfunctions, replace hardware components, troubleshoot software issues, and verify corrections.

• Adhere to safety protocols and ensure compliance with operational guidelines.

• Keep detailed records of deployments, maintenance activities, and system performance, and compile data for reports.

• Manage accountability for hardware, software, and spare parts inventory.

• Maintain diagnostic and operational tools, support equipment, and testing systems.

• Collaborate with CBP offices, DHS officials, and USBP personnel to align operational goals and ensure accurate reporting.

• Contribute to the development and implementation of new UGS technologies and strategies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active CBP BI or TOP SECRET clearance is mandatory.

• U.S. Citizenship is required for obtaining or holding a U.S. security clearance.

• An Associate’s degree in electronics, telecommunications, or a related field, or equivalent military or law enforcement training.

• At least 5 years of experience with unattended ground sensors (UGS) or comparable technologies.

• Technical knowledge of seismic, acoustic, infrared, magnetic, and microwave sensors.

• Familiarity with UGS components, including power supplies, communication modules, and sensor elements.

• Proficiency in sensor data collection, processing, and transmission.

• Understanding of wireless communication, encryption and security measures, as well as AI in image recognition.

• Knowledge of sensor placement, site selection, and concealment techniques.

• Skills in signal processing, anomaly detection, and data visualization software tools.

• Understanding of how to integrate UGS with other security systems for interoperability.

• Comprehension of geographical and environmental conditions in deployment areas and adaptation strategies.

• Awareness of applicable laws, regulations, and safety protocols governing UGS usage.

• Ability to operate in challenging and remote environments, including rugged terrains and adverse weather conditions.

• Physical stamina for lifting, carrying, and transporting equipment over extended distances.

• Capability to perform physically demanding tasks while maintaining concentration and precision.

• Willingness to travel frequently and be deployed for extended durations.
