
Traveling Compliance Specialist – HUD

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Create a timeline for executing the occupancy cycle, conducting unit inspections, managing apartment availability, interviewing candidates, verifying required documentation, and selecting tenants.
• Uphold occupancy policies and procedures in line with regulatory agreements.
• Facilitate the initial, interim, and annual lease processes for all units; collaborate with the compliance team to ensure that all subsidy information for residents is effectively communicated.
• Begin communication with the compliance team for residents who are not adhering to rent or housing rules.
• Organize documentation to assist in tracking all resident-related housing court actions.
• Keep an accurate and organized system of office records and tenant files in compliance with Fairstead regulations and agreements; ensure confidentiality as needed.
• Prepare resident move-in packages for review and approval by the compliance team.
• Provide task supervision as requested by the Property Manager for maintenance and on-site security activities.
• Foster and maintain positive relationships with all residents.
• Complete and/or assist with fulfilling housing program requirements such as the Annual Owner’s Certification and monitoring agency file reviews and site inspections.
• Execute responsibilities in accordance with Fair Housing regulations, Section 504 Act, and Certified Occupancy Specialist programs, HDC, HPD, HCR (Homes and Community Renewal), and HUD.
• Actively engage in all required training to ensure compliance with Project-Based Section 8 programs as well as HPD, HDC, and other government agency programs overseeing properties.
• Assist Property Managers and Fairstead staff in crafting responses to inquiries from third-party monitoring agencies.
• Deliver exceptional customer service to residents and prospective tenants by promptly replying to all incoming calls, messages, and emails in a professional and respectful manner.
• Travel may be required.
• Execute other duties as assigned.
• A Bachelor’s degree is required.
• A minimum of five (5) years of recertification experience in Project-Based Section 8.
• In-depth knowledge of HUD policies and procedures is essential.
• Proficiency in MS Office, HUD EIV/TRACS, and HUD MOR requirements is required.
• Yardi experience is mandatory.
• Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish) are preferred.
• Must be willing to conduct regular on-site visits.
• Experience with LIHTC is a plus.
• Preferred certifications in Affordable Housing such as AHM, COS, TaCC, and HCCP.
• Capable of effectively presenting information and addressing inquiries from management, vendors, and associates.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and quickly turnaround deliverables.
• Capacity to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment where adaptability is crucial.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
