This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Rhode Island.
• Provide comprehensive coverage of Rhode Island's tourism, food, dining, entertainment, and lifestyle sectors with expertise and creativity.
• Create a diverse range of content including breaking news, service journalism, features, profiles, trend stories, and enterprise reporting.
• Develop destination guides, restaurant lists, travel suggestions, and seasonal content that enhances readers' experiences in living in or visiting Rhode Island.
• Foster relationships with chefs, restaurateurs, tourism leaders, business owners, event organizers, and community members throughout the state.
• Produce compelling social media content that amplifies story reach and engages with audiences.
• Generate story ideas based on audience interests, search trends, and analytics.
• Contribute to newsletters and other initiatives aimed at engaging the audience.
• Collaborate with editors, visual journalists, and fellow reporters on significant projects and statewide reporting efforts.
• A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated skills in reporting, writing, and interviewing.
• Strong understanding of AP style and journalism ethics.
• Ability to work autonomously while effectively collaborating within a newsroom environment.
• Keen news judgment and a curiosity about Rhode Island’s food, travel, and cultural scene.
• Experience utilizing social media as a tool for reporting and audience development.
• Capability to handle multiple deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
• A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
