This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Design, develop, and optimize optical thin film coating solutions to fulfill customer requirements.
• Formulate comprehensive manufacturing plans for potential new products.
• Offer process engineering assistance, direction, and training to bolster manufacturing operations.
• Create and implement strategies aimed at enhancing efficiency, minimizing waste, and elevating product quality by leveraging Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Work collaboratively with Sales, Production, QA, EHS, and R&D teams to integrate innovative solutions and ensure synchronized process enhancements.
• Guide and train technicians and operators on optimized procedures and best practices, nurturing a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork within the organization.
• Establish and oversee an integrated project schedule encompassing all development phases. Utilize Microsoft Project or a similar project management tool to develop and monitor projects.
• A Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline) or equivalent experience in engineering and process development.
• 0-3 years of engineering experience in manufacturing process development, optics, or optical coating technologies is desirable.
• Proficient in using metrology equipment for characterizing thin films, including spectrophotometry and interferometry.
• Experience in a low-volume/high-mix product environment is advantageous.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interface, coordinate, and negotiate with personnel at all levels within the company, as well as customers and suppliers.
• Familiarity with SPC, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing principles in problem-solving, statistics, manufacturing quality, and quality standards.
• Capacity to comprehend, analyze, and resolve intricate technical challenges.
• Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must be skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and MS Project or comparable planning software.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience with SPC tools, DOE, and root cause analysis techniques (e.g., 5-Whys, Fishbone diagrams). Proven track record of successful project management, overseeing multiple projects concurrently. Background in high-mix, low-volume production settings.
