This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take charge of the architecture and advancement of a production-grade agentic system that facilitates autonomous experiment design and large-scale automated reporting.
• Establish and maintain engineering standards through active code reviews, collaborative programming, and practical examples.
• Develop and sustain a shared agentic infrastructure that enables various programs to integrate specialized agents within a single governed platform.
• Make platform design decisions that encompass data sources, access controls, agent composition patterns, scalability, and management of technical debt.
• Lead the technical roadmap, directing both internal engineering teams and external contractors.
• Deliver production code, manage CI/CD pipelines and observability, and promote rigorous testing and security practices for sensitive research data.
• Convert intricate research and development needs into dependable technical solutions and effectively communicate them to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Guide developers and assist the team in navigating the continuously evolving AI landscape.
• A Master’s degree in computer science, data science, chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline with 3+ years of experience, or a Ph.D. in one of these fields with 2+ years of experience.
• Proven experience in technical leadership, including making architectural decisions in uncertain conditions and guiding cross-functional engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or Azure.
• A security-focused mindset with practical knowledge of authentication, authorization, input validation, and AI-specific risks, such as prompt injection and data leakage.
• Experience in establishing engineering standards, automated testing strategies, and maintainable coding practices that can scale across teams and contributors.
• A documented history of building and managing complex, production-grade software systems from start to finish, including ownership of CI/CD, observability, and on-call operations.
• Experience in designing or managing multi-agent or agentic AI platforms within a production setting.
• Familiarity with orchestration frameworks for large language models (LLMs) and patterns for agent composition and governance.
• Experience working within SAFe or similar scaled agile delivery frameworks.
• Excellent communication skills with the capability to connect software engineering with non-technical research or product stakeholders.
• Familiarity with research and development workflows, scientific data environments, or regulated data contexts where security and data governance are essential.
