This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the strategy, architecture, and implementation of AI, machine learning, and data systems that drive risk adjustment and quality programs.
• Direct engineering teams in extracting medical codes and quality data from medical charts utilizing OCR, clinical NLP, large language models, and custom rules engines.
• Own the internal API that provides extraction results to downstream engineering teams, ensuring contracts, accuracy, and reliability.
• Guide data science research to enhance ICD extraction and facilitate retrieval-augmented generation in production.
• Establish the data warehouse architecture on Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric, including data ingestion from AWS SQL databases.
• Oversee business intelligence reporting in Looker, ensuring quality assurance in delivery.
• Supervise risk analytics to determine Medicare Advantage value derived from coded medical charts.
• Define comprehensive AI, data, and analytics architecture and make informed build-versus-buy and model-selection decisions.
• Assess innovations in extraction, retrieval, and clinical AI while maintaining team autonomy.
• Hold teams accountable for the accuracy, throughput, uptime, and reliability of data and reporting layers.
• Lead seven team leaders, fostering technical talent development and reallocating team capacity towards higher-value clinical and research initiatives.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and clinical leadership to ensure alignment of roadmaps with commercial and regulatory priorities.
• Implement data governance, model evaluation, and privacy practices for protected health information and CMS-regulated programs.
• Proven experience in leading AI and data organizations, with the technical expertise to assess architecture, model selection, and build-versus-buy decisions.
• Extensive experience with applied machine learning and large language models in a production environment.
• Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation, OCR and document understanding, along with clinical natural language processing.
• Background in leading data warehouse and business intelligence functions.
• Practical knowledge of Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, or similar cloud data platforms.
• Proficient in BI tools, such as Looker.
• Proven leadership of multiple technical teams and their leaders.
• Working fluency in healthcare risk adjustment, medical coding (ICD), and quality measurement (HEDIS®), or the ability to acquire it swiftly.
• Preferred: direct experience with Medicare Advantage risk adjustment, IVA, or RADV audit workflows.
• Preferred: familiarity with Google Gemini, AWS Textract, and AWS Comprehend Medical.
• Preferred: advanced degree in computer science, data science, biostatistics, or a clinical field, or equivalent practical experience.
