Technical Specialist I, Forestry

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Execute comprehensive and thorough audits for Forest Management and Chain of Custody.

• Conduct audits in various environments such as forests, industrial sites, and urban areas, which include timber companies, government land management entities, sawmills, pellet mills, furniture manufacturers, paper distributors, and printing companies.

• Create high-caliber audit reports that feature precise, detailed, and consistent accounts of evidence and findings.

• Evaluate organizations' management practices against relevant certification standards, either independently or as part of a team.

• Interpret and enforce certification program requirements while ensuring the integrity of the scheme.

• Review audit reports for quality assurance and oversight.

• Make decisions on whether to grant, maintain, reduce, expand, suspend, or terminate certification based on conformance evidence.

• Assist in auditor training and performance assessments.

• Implement modifications that impact certification.

• Monitor client non-conformances and verify the execution of program procedures and documentation.

• Conduct witness and internal audits when required.

• Coordinate audits with clients and stakeholders, ensuring the provision of necessary data.

• Deliver customer service and address certification-related inquiries throughout the year.

• Maintain client files and records in organized folders and databases.

• Communicate policies, procedures, and requirements effectively to clients, auditors, and international affiliate staff.

• Assist in the development of external communications and auditor training resources.

• Contribute to departmental quality programs and initiatives.

• Aid in the formulation of internal procedures and guidelines.

• Support the monitoring of accreditation and internal non-conformances.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in forestry, natural resources, ecology, or a similar discipline.

• Over 5 years of professional experience in forestry, natural resource management, or a related area.

• Practical experience in auditing and/or quality assurance.

• Certification as a lead auditor in Forest Management and Chain of Custody for FSC, SFI, and other relevant schemes, including PEFC and SBP.

• Proficiency in English, encompassing professional and technical verbal and written communication skills.

• Excellent organizational and prioritization abilities with remarkable attention to detail.

• Strong emphasis on customer service and teamwork.

• Competence in using Outlook, Word, Excel, and database management systems.

• Initiative, sound judgment, and the capability to work independently within a team setting.

• Eligibility to work in the United States.

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for audits as required.

• Preferred qualifications include a professional forester license, Society of American Foresters Certified Forester, or equivalent from the Canadian Institute of Forestry.
