This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Develop the initial lines of production code.
• Define the technical direction and oversee execution from start to finish.
• Strengthen Ava's voice and workflow systems to ensure reliability in production.
• Create foundational architecture, observability, and audit-trail standards.
• Construct the internal infrastructure that enables the team to configure, monitor, and enhance AI performance without increasing engineering personnel.
• Manage the balance between AI quality and cost-per-call, ensuring unit economics align with the $499/month pricing model.
• Act as the technical representative of the company in discussions with lawyers, partners, and investors.
• Transform pilot projects into paying customers, broaden the AI staff beyond the front desk, and initiate the development of custom and self-hosted models where legal and privacy regulations necessitate it.
• Recruit and guide the founding engineering team while establishing the company's cultural foundation.
• Experience in deploying LLM-powered and voice systems in production settings where incorrect outputs had significant consequences.
• Comprehensive knowledge across applied LLMs, real-time voice and conversational AI, telephony, human-in-the-loop workflows, observability, and secure multi-tenant SaaS.
• Well-defined beliefs regarding reliability engineering, edge-case management, and the trade-offs between AI quality and cost-per-call.
• Proven experience in creating managed and service-intensive platforms, with the ability to scale delivery without increasing engineering staff.
• Willingness to function as a principal, including the ability to assert when something "won't scale" or "isn't ready" when product integrity is at stake.
• Strongly preferred: prior experience as a founder or in early-stage technical leadership; background in legal tech, healthcare, or another trust-sensitive field; ability to self-host custom models to fulfill legal and privacy requirements.
