Tech Leader, Ruby

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Design, create, and test new functionalities for the platform while actively engaging in technical roles.

• Enhance and refine the current codebase, promptly addressing bugs and restructuring problematic code as necessary.

• Produce clear, structured code that adheres to separation of concerns and the project’s architecture, following the appropriate semantics for the team’s subdomains.

• Advocate for standards and best practices, implement balanced testing according to the testing pyramid, and conduct consistent code reviews to elevate overall quality.

• Lead research initiatives and experiments when addressing new and challenging requirements.

• Execute complex tasks such as capacity planning, load testing, and security enhancements.

• Conduct regular one-on-ones, set and adhere to Individual Development Plans (IDPs), carry out performance evaluations, and support the team’s well-being and workload management.

• Organize and continuously enhance team rituals: planning sessions, daily stand-ups, reviews/demos, and retrospectives, ensuring consistent cadence and predictability.

• Collaborate on the technical roadmap with Product, making decisions regarding trade-offs between scope, cost, and delivery timelines, ensuring alignment with company goals.

• Oversee reliability initiatives (observability, performance, security) and manage risk-laden maintenance with strategic planning and communication to mitigate customer impact.

• Define, assess, and communicate team metrics (throughput, lead time, cycle time, quality, test coverage, availability, technical debt), utilizing them for decision-making and coaching.

• Lead incident response efforts within the team’s scope, coordinating personnel, prioritizing actions, and ensuring clear communication with stakeholders.

• Engage in recruiting and selection processes, onboarding, and identifying future leaders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in Ruby on Rails (minimum of 5 years) with TDD/BDD (unit and integration), Git, code reviews, and continuous integration/development/test environments;

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases, and experience with MongoDB and/or Redis;

• Proficient in building and consuming APIs and maintaining applications based on (micro)services;

• Some knowledge of other programming languages such as Python, Node.js, Java, or Go;

• Strong expertise in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;

• Advanced understanding of the HTTP protocol;

• Proficient in written English and possess at least good spoken English skills;

• Basic understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS);

• Be a self-sufficient user of Linux or macOS (or Windows with WSL2) and comfortable using the terminal;

• Previous experience in a technical leadership role (tech lead, mentoring, or coordinating initiatives);

• Ability to conduct one-on-ones, provide constructive feedback, and monitor individual development;

• Experience in defining and monitoring engineering metrics and agile processes;

• Clear, concise, and objective written communication skills—capable of synthesizing complex issues into brief, actionable messages.
