📋 Description

• Oversee the delivery of the Shop Builder developer interface, including MCP server, CLI, local development environment, public SDK, documentation pipeline, sandbox and preview environments, as well as deployment and versioning strategies.

• Lead and mentor a team of three engineers, establishing technical direction within the squad, conducting code reviews, and ensuring high standards of engineering quality.

• Manage cross-team collaboration: identify and integrate API capabilities from the payments, authentication, live operations, and catalog teams; remove barriers; and oversee integration timelines.

• Actively engage in implementation — you will deploy production code with the team, especially on the most vital and intricate components.

• Collaborate with the Principal Engineer to convert architectural decisions into actionable sprint plans and achievable timelines.

• Work with the Product Owner on roadmap prioritization, scope evaluations, and balancing speed with accuracy.

• Take charge of the team's delivery cadence: sprint planning, technical grooming, retrospectives, and ensuring status visibility for both engineering and business leadership.

• Establish and uphold the team's engineering standards, including testing strategies, observability practices, deployment methods, and documentation quality.

• Serve as the main technical liaison for integrations with headless partners and the MIT professional services team during the early stages of partner onboarding.

• Participate in the hiring process by conducting technical interviews and defining what excellence looks like for new engineers joining the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a tech lead, staff, or senior lead position overseeing team delivery.

• High proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js, with a track record of delivering production APIs, CLIs, or SDKs to external developers.

• Practical experience in constructing CLI tools and developer-oriented workflows, including command design, configuration file formats, local development loops, deployment commands, and user-friendly error messages.

• Strong understanding of REST API design principles, SDK usability, and the elements that contribute to a successful developer experience — you possess informed opinions and can substantiate them.

• Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) or agent-based tool usage patterns: you comprehend how AI agents interact with tool interfaces and what constitutes a reliable tool for a language model.

• Experience in coordinating with multiple engineering teams to deliver features that depend on external capabilities you do not directly control.

• Demonstrated ability to lead engineers by providing clear technical guidance, enhancing quality through reviews, and nurturing the skills of fellow engineers.

• Experience with cloud-native technologies: CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and deployment automation on AWS or GCP.

• Excellent communication abilities — you can simplify technical complexities into understandable updates for leadership and translate technical requirements into actionable tasks for your team.
