This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.
β’ Take charge of the technical direction, architecture, and quality of delivery within your area of expertise.
β’ Regularly engage in writing production code, dedicating about 40β60% of your time to hands-on work.
β’ Lead and mentor a team of 3-4 engineers, with plans to expand the team as needed.
β’ Collaborate with the PM, CPO, and CTO to translate product objectives into clear engineering plans.
β’ Make practical technical decisions for a high-trust health product in its early stages.
β’ Take ownership of quality by ensuring tests, observability, performance, security, and production reliability.
β’ Contribute to the development of systems that responsibly manage sensitive mental health data.
β’ Facilitate engineering rituals including planning, estimations, retrospectives, design reviews, and ADRs.
β’ Participate in the hiring and onboarding process.
β’ Work alongside AI and clinical teams to safely integrate LLM features into user-facing workflows.
β’ A minimum of 5 years of commercial software engineering experience.
β’ At least 1.5 years in a Tech Lead, Team Lead, Staff Engineer, or Senior Engineer role with leadership responsibilities.
β’ Strong hands-on skills in at least one of the following: Python backend, Python AI services, native iOS, or Kotlin Multiplatform mobile.
β’ Experience in building SaaS, mobile, consumer health, or other products with actual users.
β’ A strong ownership mentality, from backlog breakdown to deployment, monitoring, and support.
β’ Ability to navigate early-stage ambiguity, make trade-offs, and act swiftly without compromising quality.
β’ Solid understanding of architectural fundamentals, including APIs, databases, queues, integrations, and reliability patterns.
β’ Proficient with Docker, CI/CD, cloud deployments, and production operations.
β’ Familiarity with security, privacy, and handling of sensitive data, or a strong willingness to learn quickly.
β’ Product-oriented mindset: you focus not only on how the system operates but also on its significance to users.
β’ Proficient in English at an Intermediate level or higher for documentation and communication within a distributed team.
