Software Engineer, Applied AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Develop AI-centric features from start to finish: You will be involved in the design, deployment, and enhancement of our next-generation benefits platform features that utilize personalization, experimentation, and AI/ML techniques (such as agents/LLMs, recommender systems, reinforcement learning) to significantly improve user experience in a relevant business domain.

• Engage across the technology stack: You will work with React (JavaScript/TypeScript) on the frontend and Python (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy) on the backend, delivering production-ready code and user-facing features while also engaging in innovative ML projects.

• Stay at the forefront of AI tools: You will help redefine what is achievable with contemporary AI-driven software development tools (Cursor, Windsurf), stay updated with the ongoing advancements in AI, and discover new and exciting methods to build and explore features more rapidly.

• Thrive in a dynamic iterative environment: Collaborate closely with design, product, and other teams to deliver and refine impressive features and prototypes at a world-class pace.

• Ensure code quality and testing: Maintain clean, efficient, and well-tested code accompanied by clear documentation for both colleagues and future reference.

• Participate in reviews, refinement, and growth: Engage actively in peer reviews, CI/CD processes, and a culture focused on growth in engineering, where you continually strive to enhance your technical skills.

• Be a collaborative team member: At times, you will be iterating on ML pipelines; other times, you will refine frontend components or resolve complex bugs. We seek an individual who is enthusiastic about the complete product journey and working together as a cohesive unit.

⛳️ Requirements

• Industry Experience (2+ years): Previous experience contributing to impactful products in fast-paced or startup environments, with an understanding of both scalability and quality from larger tech organizations.

• Proficient Full Stack Skills: Expertise in React/Typescript and/or Python (RESTful APIs, data pipelines), along with familiarity in deploying and maintaining services on modern cloud platforms (GCP preferred, AWS or Azure acceptable).

• Practical AI/ML Experience: Direct experience in building and delivering AI/ML features to actual users, alongside an unquenchable curiosity to stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends.

• Collaborative Mindset: Strong communication skills for articulating complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, as well as a passion for working within cross-functional teams.

• Dedication to Shipping: A proactive attitude towards achieving key business objectives that contribute to the success of the entire team.

• Commitment to Best Practices: A strong desire to develop efficient, scalable, and maintainable code, while understanding the balance between technical debt and delivery speed.
