This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Evaluate health record documentation to verify that it aligns with assigned diagnoses and procedures.
• Precisely assign surgical ICD-10 and CPT codes for inpatient, observation, and day surgery cases.
• Utilize UHDDS definitions and Prospective Payment System guidelines to identify principal diagnoses and procedures.
• Validate DRGs and APCs.
• Categorize non-indexed medical terms using knowledge of disease processes and surgical procedures.
• Assist Patient Billing Services in submitting accurate claims that fulfill medical necessity requirements.
• Review and conduct charge data entry within hospital and physician patient accounting systems.
• Refer to resource materials and navigate electronic systems, including Epic.
• Collaborate with coding staff, nursing units, case management teams, physicians, clinics, and hospital personnel.
• Examine documentation to ensure appropriate codes align with medical necessity.
• Execute other tasks as assigned.
• High School diploma or GED.
• One of the following certifications: CCA, CCS, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA.
• A minimum of two (2) years of coding experience is required.
• Familiarity with anatomy and physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, and diagnostic and procedural terminology.
• Understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding classification systems.
• Knowledge of UHDDS definitions and Prospective Payment System guidelines.
• Capability to identify principal diagnoses and procedures and validate DRGs and APCs.
• Competence in classifying non-indexed medical terms.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in health information management or a related field.
• Preferred: Associate's degree in health information management or a related field.
• Must provide proof of legal authorization to work in the United States on the first day of employment.
