This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Oversee attorneys and advocates, which includes managing workloads, providing training, mentoring, and monitoring staff performance.
• Direct a team with a focus on helping them develop and execute strategies to achieve team objectives.
• Ensure that all activities adhere to grant stipulations and meet procedural and quality benchmarks, including the proper management of personally identifiable information.
• Conduct weekly teleconferences with attorneys and advocates regarding ongoing work.
• Address inquiries and complaints related to services offered.
• Educate attorneys, advocates, clients, and others about substantive disability rights law.
• Collaborate with the ACE Supervision Team to lead and/or support ACE projects and initiatives, which includes leading hiring teams.
• Work with colleagues to optimize resources and enhance the quality of client services.
• Regularly conduct quality assurance reviews of casework and outreach efforts.
• Compile reports from supervisees for submission to the LAU Director in support of LAU’s grant reporting requirements.
• Engage in outreach and support while monitoring supervisee outreach activities targeting traditionally underserved communities.
• Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) or equivalent, along with membership in the California State Bar.
• A minimum of 7 years of legal practice experience; or internal candidates who have been with DRC for three uninterrupted years and possess 6 years of legal practice experience.
• Proven dedication – through personal experience and/or professional background – to working with individuals with disabilities and low-income clients, while integrating race equity and community lawyering principles into their work.
• At least 2 years of experience successfully leading, developing, mentoring, or supervising law clerks, attorneys, or advocates.
• Proficiency in one or more substantive legal areas pertinent to the position.
• At least 2 years of experience successfully managing multiple advocacy projects, such as intake/outreach initiatives, administrative proceedings, writs, or individual client lawsuits.
