Subject Matter Expert – Course Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• The Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Course Developer is tasked with crafting and developing high-quality academic course content for the accelerated online academic programs at Kentucky State University.

• In collaboration with instructional designers and academic leadership, the SME develops engaging, academically rigorous, and accessible online learning experiences that align with university standards, program learning outcomes, accreditation expectations, and relevant federal and state requirements.

• This role is project-based and does not encompass instructional responsibilities unless specifically assigned.

• Create comprehensive online courses that align with approved program and course learning outcomes, which includes syllabi, measurable learning objectives, instructional materials, lectures, readings, learning activities, discussion prompts, and assessments.

• Design authentic assessments, such as papers, projects, examinations, presentations, and grading rubrics, that effectively gauge student learning and competency achievement.

• Partner with instructional designers to prepare course materials for asynchronous online delivery via the University's learning management system while integrating accessibility standards and effective online instructional practices.

• Ensure that course content reflects the latest scholarship, professional standards, and industry best practices.

• Complete curriculum mapping and other documentation necessary to support institutional assessment and accreditation requirements.

• Integrate practical applications, case studies, and learning activities that are suitable for adult learners.

• Engage in course review and revision processes by incorporating feedback from academic leadership, instructional designers, and peer reviewers.

• Confirm that all instructional materials adhere to copyright, fair use, accessibility, licensing, and intellectual property regulations.

• Submit finalized course materials in accordance with established development schedules and project milestones.

• Maintain confidentiality regarding University information and course development materials.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A graduate degree in the relevant discipline from a regionally accredited institution is required.

• A terminal degree may be necessary depending on the academic program and accreditation standards.

• Demonstrated expertise in the subject matter through graduate-level teaching, scholarly research, publications, professional practice, or a comparable combination of education and experience.

• Experience in teaching or developing graduate-level curricula.

• Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to create high-quality instructional materials.

• Proficient in using learning management systems and educational technologies.

• Capability to independently manage projects and adhere to established deadlines.

• Expertise in one or more of the following areas is required: Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Affairs, Public Management, Government Administration, Government Studies, Public Sector Management, Political Science, Master of Public Administration, Civic Leadership, Public Health, Master of Public Health, Community Health, Health Policy and Management, Health Systems Management, Social Determinants of Health, Aerospace and Defense, Military Science, Aeronautics, National Security Studies, Homeland Security, Security Studies, Sports Analytics, Sports Science, Sports Business Analytics, and Sports Informatics.
