Student Financial Services Counselor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Provide guidance to students and their families regarding financial aid award packages, eligibility criteria, funding options, payment methods, and application prerequisites.

• Evaluate and confirm student eligibility for federal, state, institutional, scholarship, and grant assistance programs.

• Calculate funding amounts and clarify total financial aid awards, including adjustments based on enrollment changes.

• Oversee incoming application files and manage documentation submissions along with follow-up activities.

• Facilitate individual interviews, conduct information sessions, present to groups, and host virtual FAFSA events.

• Research, verify, analyze, and evaluate student financial backgrounds, including defaulted loans and repayment responsibilities.

• Clarify Title IV refunds and repayments, including notifications from the Department of Education and NSLDS.

• Process FAFSA and other necessary documents, ensuring financial aid applications are accurate.

• Assist in outreach efforts for the collection of overdue accounts.

• Support veterans and their dependents with certificates of eligibility and other necessary documentation for benefits.

• Handle payment transactions through cash, checks, credit cards, and debit cards.

• Collaborate with College departments and satellite locations to enhance communication regarding programs and services.

• Engage in Student Financial Services meetings, College events, and other related activities.

• Stay updated on current federal and state regulations.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree is required; a minimum of 2 years of experience in financial aid is preferred.

• Proven previous experience with the financial aid process in higher education settings.

• Experience with financial aid delivery systems is highly desirable, particularly with Starfish, Salesforce, Jenzabar, and PowerFaids.

• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

• Capability to deliver an exceptionally high level of customer service.

• Ability to provide unbiased counseling while ensuring confidentiality.

• Must maintain good standing with Title IV loans to access NSLDS.

• Proficiency in managing multiple competing priorities.

• Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.

• Professional demeanor with the ability to follow through and meet deadlines.

• Flexibility and willingness to work as a team player.

• Ability to publicly represent the College and present to large audiences.

• Availability to work some evenings and weekends as required.

• Strong computer and internet proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Ability to identify solutions within Financial Aid guidelines.
