Strategy Consultant – Allocation & Replenishment

Posted 11 hours ago

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Facilitate bi-weekly performance reviews on allocation with brand planning teams, addressing service level, sales, GM$, GM%, GMROI, sell-through rates, and allocation accuracy.

• Deliver KPI diagnostics that include root-cause analysis: not just “what occurred” but also “why it occurred” and “the actions we are taking in response.”

• Create quarterly business reviews for executive leadership that summarize allocation performance trends along with strategic recommendations.

• Utilize existing dashboards and alerting tools to track allocation outcomes across all brands at the store-SKU level.

• Collaborate with the technical team to develop or enhance tools where current resources are insufficient.

• Proactively identify emerging issues before they escalate: monitor sell-through rates, inventory discrepancies in stores, and stockout patterns indicating potential model or grading concerns.

• Break down KPI misses into demand-side factors (forecast accuracy, trend shifts) and supply-side factors (misallocation, replenishment delays, pack constraints) to identify actionable root causes.

• Evaluate outcomes across different product lifecycle types (basics, seasonal basics, fashion) and customize diagnostic frameworks accordingly.

• Convert diagnostic insights into specific vendor improvement requests with clear success criteria — urge the vendor to enhance their model where the data justifies it.

• Establish requirements for in-house diagnostic tools and collaborate with the technical team to prioritize their development.

• Guide brand planning teams on allocation strategy decisions: including store eligibility, distribution center holdback levels, size curve adjustments, and replenishment management for end-of-season.

• Manage the vendor accountability framework: keep the RACI updated, monitor vendor action rates, and escalate issues when commitments are unmet.

• Maintain proactive communication: reach out to stakeholders with insights and recommendations, rather than waiting for inquiries.

• Cultivate trust as a fiduciary partner — ensure brands feel confident that you are monitoring their business interests and advocating for their outcomes.

• Guide the narrative throughout the transition from the previous consulting model: showcase early successes, set achievable expectations, and foster confidence in the new capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in a strategy consulting role, ideally with retail clients.

• Extensive knowledge of fashion retail allocation and replenishment processes, including the differences in strategies for basics, seasonal basics, and fashion/trend products.

• Proficient in retail KPIs: service level, sell-through, WOS, GMROI, allocation accuracy, markdown rate, and the influence of allocation decisions on each.

• Strong analytical intuition; able to review a performance dashboard and swiftly identify anomalies and areas for deeper analysis.

• Outstanding communication and executive presence: comfortable presenting to a VP of Merchandising and mentoring junior team members.

• MBA or equivalent advanced degree, or comparable depth of experience in strategy and analytics.

Preferred

• Direct experience with a multi-brand fashion retailer (specialty, department store, or fast fashion).

• A background that blends operational experience (retailer-side) with advisory experience (consulting or vendor-side).

• Familiarity with statistical concepts utilized in allocation diagnostics: forecast accuracy metrics (MAPE, bias), variance decomposition, and demand signal analysis.

• Experience in building or managing a small team and collaborating with contingent/contract technical resources.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity and establish a function from the ground up — this role requires creating the playbook rather than inheriting one.

• Experience working with third-party allocation/planning vendors and overseeing vendor performance.

🏝️ Benefits

• Significant career advancement opportunities are available as the company expands. This position presents a unique chance to be part of a small, fast-growing, challenging, and entrepreneurial environment, with a high level of individual responsibility.

• Tiger Analytics provides equal employment opportunities to applicants and employees without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, pregnancy, national origin, ancestry, marital status, protected veteran status, disability status, or any other basis as protected by federal, state, or local law.
