Staff/Principal Platform Engineer – Infrastructure

Posted May 20

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the architecture and development of P2P.org's internal developer platform, including Kubernetes, monitoring, secrets management, and delivery infrastructure. You will be accountable for the scalability, interconnectivity, and evolution of these systems across more than 60 blockchain networks.

• Design and construct scalable, fault-tolerant platform components, which encompass capacity planning, multi-tenancy, networking topology, and storage architecture. Clearly document and communicate architectural trade-offs.

• Develop production code using Go and/or Python for platform tooling, services, operators, and APIs. This role requires hands-on engineering, rather than just configuration.

• Create self-service infrastructure for teams to use with minimal friction, including Terraform modules, Helm charts, reusable pipeline templates, and platform APIs. Promote our versioned module library and automate security propagation via Renovate.

• Expand our Kubernetes platform across both bare-metal and cloud environments, and enhance the observability stack (Victoria Metrics, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki) along with the delivery platform (ArgoCD, CI/CD pipelines).

• Manage the platform's security posture, focusing on secrets management, access controls, identity federation, network policies, and encryption both at rest and in transit.

• Ensure SOC 2 Type II compliance across the platform infrastructure by implementing controls as code, maintaining audit readiness, and proactively collaborating with compliance teams to address gaps.

• Implement container and supply chain security measures, including image scanning, signed artifacts, base image management, and vulnerability remediation. Adopt zero-trust principles such as least-privilege roles, short-lived credentials, and auditable access. Strengthen Kubernetes workloads through pod security standards, network policies, RBAC, and runtime monitoring.

• Utilize AI tooling as an integral component of your workflow and advocate for its adoption within the infrastructure team and the broader engineering organization for tasks including code generation, code review, incident response, documentation, and operational automation.

• Develop or integrate AI-assisted tools into platform workflows where they can provide significant enhancements. Help establish metrics to evaluate the impact of AI integration within engineering.

• Lead the technical vision for the infrastructure team by setting architectural standards, promoting best practices, and mitigating technical debt.

• Collaborate across functions with SRE, blockchain, engineering, data, and security teams, translating their requirements into platform capabilities.

• Mentor and develop engineers through code reviews, architectural guidance, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.

• Participate in incident response and post-incident reviews, driving improvements in platform reliability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in infrastructure, SRE, or platform engineering, including at least 3 years in a senior or staff-level position responsible for system architecture and technical direction.

• Proficient software engineering skills in Go and/or Python; you produce production-quality code rather than merely scripts. You design, build, test, and deploy platform services and tools.

• Demonstrated ability to architect large-scale distributed systems, focusing on capacity planning, fault-tolerance patterns, system decomposition, and the ability to clearly articulate trade-offs.

• Extensive expertise in Kubernetes, covering both managed (GKE, EKS) and bare-metal/hybrid clusters, including networking, storage, multi-tenancy, and cluster lifecycle management.

• Strong experience with Terraform, emphasizing reusable module libraries, state management at scale, and automation of the infrastructure lifecycle.

• Familiarity with at least one major cloud provider (GCP, OCI, AWS, or Azure) in addition to bare-metal infrastructure.

• Practical experience with observability tools (Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry, or equivalent) and delivery tools (ArgoCD, Helm, CI/CD pipelines).

• Solid grounding in Linux systems and networking fundamentals (DNS, load balancing, firewalls, VPN, BGP).

• Experience in infrastructure security, including container security, supply chain security, network policies, zero-trust access models, and compliance (SOC 2 Type II or similar).

• Active engagement with AI tools in your engineering workflow, with a history of encouraging adoption within a team.

• A proven record of developing self-service platform capabilities that are successfully utilized by other teams.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create technical proposals and make architectural decisions while collaborating across distributed teams. Minimum English proficiency of B2.

🏝️ Benefits

• Competitive salary in $ (with the option to be paid in cryptocurrency).

• Paid vacation and sick leave.

• Well-being program.

• Mental health care program.

• Education compensation, including for foreign language and professional development courses.

• Equipment and co-working reimbursement program.

• Opportunities to attend overseas conferences and engage with the community.
