This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hawaii.
• We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to become part of Rula’s Patient Matching team.
• This team is dedicated to making a significant impact throughout the patient funnel.
• Our objective is not merely to assist patients in locating any provider, but to ensure they find the right provider: someone they trust, feel comfortable with, and wish to continue their care with.
• You will play a pivotal role in guiding this direction by bringing clarity to uncertainty, designing robust systems, and delivering software that directly influences how patients perceive care.
• You will collaborate with your Engineering Manager and work closely with product managers, designers, clinicians, and other engineers to align technical decisions with both patient and business outcomes.
• You will enhance the team's effectiveness by mentoring engineers, removing obstacles for peers, and raising the technical standards across Rula.
• We anticipate that engineers will utilize AI-assisted development tools as an integral part of their workflow.
• Over 8 years of experience in developing and maintaining scalable, production-ready systems that have a measurable business impact.
• Strong proficiency in API design, data modeling, and constructing systems that are dependable, maintainable, and high-performing.
• Advanced System Architecture Experience: Demonstrated ability to design and evolve architectures while weighing trade-offs and selecting an appropriate approach for the given problem.
• Technical Leadership: Proven track record of leading intricate technical projects across teams, shaping scope, estimates, and execution while ensuring alignment of technical decisions with business objectives.
• Communication & Alignment: Exceptional collaboration and communication skills with the capacity to build consensus, identify risks early, and clarify ambiguous problem areas.
• Team Multiplier: Experience in mentoring engineering teams, reviewing architectures, and elevating the technical standards across organizations.
• AI-Assisted Development: Proficient with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code) and capable of articulating both their benefits in expediting delivery and their potential risks or need for human judgment.
• 100% remote work environment: Flexible working hours to support a healthy work-life balance, allowing you to fulfill both professional and personal commitments (must reside in the United States, currently not hiring in Hawaii).
• Competitive compensation and benefits: Full transparency of pay ranges regardless of your location in the United States.
• Comprehensive health benefits: Includes medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and FSA/HSA.
• Access to a 401(k) plan: Start saving for your future.
• Generous time-off policies: Includes 2 company-wide shutdown weeks each year for self-care (for most employees).
• Paid parental leave: Available for all parents, including birthing, non-birthing, adopting, and fostering.
• Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Support for your mental and physical health.
• New hire home office stipend: Set up your workspace for success.
• Quarterly department stipend: For fun team-building activities or in-person gatherings.
• Wellness events and lunch & learns: Engage with a variety of interesting topics.
• Community and employee resource groups: Join groups that celebrate employee identity and lived experiences, fostering a sense of community and belonging for all.
