Staff Software Engineer – Java, Scala

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hungary.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain extensive replication systems utilizing the Cloudera Data Platform stack.

• Oversee the operation of our products in a production environment.

• Collaborate with a distributed team of engineers to architect cloud-based replication systems with low RPO and RTO.

• Facilitate replication across various Cloudera components, including HDFS, Ozone, Hive, HBase, Iceberg, Atlas, and Ranger.

• Provide and receive constructive feedback.

• Mentor junior engineers in their professional development.

• Partner with product management and, on occasion, with field engineers to shape the product roadmap and introduce early access features.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field with 4-6 years of experience; alternatively, a Bachelor's degree with over 6 years of relevant industry experience; or 6-8 years of pertinent industry experience.

• Proficient in backend engineering with a strong command of Java, Scala, or Kotlin.

• Capable of navigating large codebases and producing clear, concise code.

• Experience in designing and developing system software.

• Familiar with large-scale, distributed systems design and development, including knowledge of scaling, replication, consistency, and high availability.

• Understanding of computer architecture, storage, networking, and IO subsystems.

• Current expertise in Java/Scala/Kotlin developer ecosystems.

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Proficiency in test automation and basic knowledge of Python.

• Background in performance tuning, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing optimizations.

• Experience in Systems/DevOps practices.
