This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Transform unclear infrastructure challenges into actionable proposals that the organization can support, and facilitate their progression through RFCs and architectural reviews across various teams.
• Create self-service features and platform APIs (primarily using Go) for onboarding, provisioning, deployment, observability defaults, and day-2 operations, ensuring that the documentation and contracts are practical for team use.
• Establish delivery standards utilizing Terraform, GitOps with Argo CD, progressive rollout strategies, and effective testing, including the development of the continuous-deployment workflow that is currently absent.
• Advance the multi-tenant EKS foundations to enhance reliability, security, scalability, and cost-efficiency: including Envoy Gateway ingress, traffic routing, and multi-region, cross-account connectivity necessities.
• Enhance SLOs, alerting, and incident follow-up on Grafana Cloud to make production environments safer and reduce reliance on heroic efforts.
• Contribute to the development of AI-assisted and agentic workflows aimed at reducing operational toil while maintaining safety, auditability, and human oversight.
• A minimum of 8 years of hands-on, full-time software engineering experience focused on backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency in software engineering using Go or a comparable language, with skills in design, testing, debugging, and ensuring long-term maintainability.
• Proven history of designing, delivering, and managing cloud services or infrastructure platforms in production environments. We prioritize skills and impact over years of experience.
• Extensive knowledge in at least one of the following areas: Kubernetes, networking, cloud platforms, reliability engineering, or developer platforms, along with a solid foundation in Linux, networking, and production operations.
• Experience in setting technical direction and leading projects that require collaboration across teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a remote work setting (including RFCs, design documents, and incident reports).
• Preferred qualifications include: experience with EKS and ingress/CNI/service-mesh; familiarity with observability tools like OpenTelemetry/Prometheus/Grafana; knowledge of CI/CD and progressive delivery (GitHub Actions, Argo CD, canaries); and experience leading migrations or adoption initiatives across teams.
• Freedom and flexibility to tailor your work around your personal life.
• Designated quarterly Whaleness Days and an end-of-year Whaleness break.
• Home office setup to ensure your comfort while working.
• 16 weeks of paid parental leave after 6 months of employment.
