This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Define and lead the technical strategy across multiple squads, identifying systemic gaps, proposing architectural directions, and managing complex projects from initiation to completion.
β’ Create an environment conducive to squad success: develop sustainable abstractions, common patterns, and platform primitives that minimize friction between teams rather than within individual teams.
β’ Work in high-ambiguity environments: tackle issues that are not yet clearly defined enough to be assigned to a squad, where your role is to provide clarity and make them manageable.
β’ Influence architectural decisions that endure beyond any single squad rotation, balancing the long-term health of the system with the practical pace of a fast-moving organization.
β’ Establish and refine engineering standards: dictate how the team leverages AI-assisted development, define what constitutes a good code review, and guide our approach to build vs. buy vs. adopt decisions.
β’ Mentor and uplift engineers across squads, not through formal programs, but through the quality of your reviews, your Requests for Comments (RFCs), and your participation in technical discussions.
β’ Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to inform the technical roadmap, highlighting constraints and opportunities that require in-depth system knowledge to identify.
β’ 12+ years of experience in software engineering, demonstrating technical ownership that spans multiple teams, not just individual projects.
β’ Proven ability to set architectural direction at the organizational or platform level, beyond just a team's scope.
β’ Proficient across the full tech stack, with the expertise to navigate from frontend architecture to infrastructure trade-offs as required by the problem.
β’ Experience in a squad or rotation-based model, or possess the instincts of someone who would excel in such an environment.
β’ Strong grasp of distributed systems, API design, data modeling, and scalable cloud-native infrastructure.
β’ Active and knowledgeable use of AI coding tools, with insights on their effective application, not merely their use.
β’ Outstanding communication skills: capable of drafting RFCs that achieve alignment, providing impactful feedback, and articulating complex trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
β’ Comfort with ambiguity: able to make progress without complete clarity, and skilled at guiding others rather than retreating into a problem.
β’ Flexible Work Environment: Remote work with flexible hours and unlimited PTO.
β’ Comprehensive Health Coverage: Health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
β’ Retirement Plan: 401(k) plan to secure your future.
β’ Parental Leave: 8 weeks at 100% regardless of state.
β’ Company Retreats: Annual company summit trips.
β’ Home Office Budget: $1,000 per year for home office improvements.
