Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hawaii.

📋 Description

• Engage in comprehensive full-stack product development with a focus on backend technologies.

• Design and support GraphQL APIs using Python frameworks such as Django and Flask.

• Create web and mobile user interfaces utilizing React and React Native.

• Develop efficient and reusable systems that power complex web and mobile applications.

• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and GDPR regulations while implementing security best practices.

• Independently draft and execute technical plans (tech specs/RFCs) for significant, ambiguous, cross-domain projects, negotiating project scope with product teams as necessary.

• Lead large or ambiguous projects by collaborating with design, product, cross-functional partners, and other engineers to create a unified adaptive care experience.

• Act as the engineering representative responsible for roadmap commitments, managing launch timelines, breaking down tasks, and coordinating inter-team dependencies.

• Write and maintain technical documentation, unit tests, and integration tests.

• Serve as a thought leader in strategic engineering and technology initiatives, contributing to cross-team engineering discussions.

• Lead and participate in cross-team engineering forums and collaborative engineering projects.

• Mentor fellow engineers to amplify your impact within Care Journey and throughout the engineering department.

• Provide compassionate and constructive feedback on technical project plans and code.

• Participate in on-call duties, driving investigations, remediations, and process improvements for recurring issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of relevant software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages.

• A minimum of 2 years of production experience in full-stack web development, including expertise in React, JavaScript/TypeScript, React Native, and Python.

• Strong familiarity with our technology stack (or a comparable one) is preferred; candidates should expect to start contributing meaningfully within the first 30 days.

• Proven ability to take high ownership: independently decompose ambiguous problems into manageable components, propose technically sound strategies, and deliver on them confidently.

• A history of creating technical plans (tech specs/RFCs) that withstand cross-functional scrutiny, and leading solutions for initiatives that involve multiple domains or teams.

• Experience in building and maintaining GraphQL and/or REST APIs.

• Skilled in scaling relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and crafting efficient queries.

• Demonstrated ability to work across functions and earn trust as a technical partner among product, design, and engineering teams, including navigating disagreements and guiding others toward a technical direction.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; adept at aligning with stakeholders outside your immediate team.

• Experience in mentoring and collaborating effectively with a distributed development team.

• Proven experience in leading and architecting large-scale projects as a technical thought leader.
