Staff Software Engineer – Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of critical components from start to finish, delivering measurable enhancements in system quality, scalability, and reliability.

• Drive the delivery of significant features or systems by clarifying requirements, designing solutions, executing, shipping, and iterating.

• Design and develop scalable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines that underpin core product functionality.

• Guide system design decisions with a focus on balancing scalability, performance, reliability, and cost considerations.

• Establish how quality is assessed in your domain (success metrics, testing strategy, observability) and automate the processes wherever feasible.

• Lead structured experimentation by defining hypotheses, assessing results, and converting insights into product and system enhancements.

• Enhance operational readiness through deployment automation, monitoring/alerting, incident response, and performance optimization.

• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and provide hands-on technical guidance.

• Influence engineering best practices, architectural decisions, and the long-term technical roadmap.

⛳️ Requirements

• Overall: More than 6 years of experience in software engineering.

• Relevant: At least 3 years of experience in building and shipping production systems within product teams.

• Technical (hands-on coding): Over 5 years of experience.

• Strong foundation in software engineering principles and advanced system design expertise.

• Proficient in hands-on coding using Python and/or TypeScript (or similar), creating APIs, services, and data pipelines.

• Experience in designing and scaling distributed systems in production settings.

• Extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), CI/CD, automated testing, and observability practices.

• Demonstrated capability to manage systems end-to-end from design through production and iteration.

• Experience thriving in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with shifting requirements.

• Strong experimentation mindset: capable of defining metrics, creating evaluation methodologies, and iterating rapidly.
