This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the transition to General Availability.
• Shape the technical future of Explorer: provide guidance on technical priorities, dependencies, and complexity; propose and advocate for well-reasoned solutions with comprehensive documentation of trade-offs and alternatives.
• Advance a pilot implementation from limited release to general availability, which includes making initial architectural choices, validating technical assumptions, and refining towards a scalable design.
• Strengthen experimental systems for production readiness, focusing on reliability, performance, observability, testing, and operational excellence.
• Architect for the long term: design and construct systems and architectures that will support Explorer for years, prioritizing scale, reliability, security, and maintainability.
• Enhance and extend the existing code base: strengthen secure coding practices, detect vulnerabilities early, and prioritize data privacy and access control.
• Drive the test strategy, proactively identify and mitigate technical risks, and enhance quality improvements at the team level.
• Minimize technical debt, elevate system quality, and contribute to objectives that reach across the broader organization.
• Elevate the Team.
• Clarify ambiguity, navigate evolving requirements, and introduce structure and clarity without waiting for perfect specifications.
• Establish best practices for test strategy, code quality, and system design; elevate the technical standards across the organization through documentation, advocacy, and role modeling.
• Mentor senior engineers and assist emerging technical leads in developing the judgment, ownership, and skills necessary for growth; facilitate technical discussions, drive design consensus, and exemplify the standards expected from others.
• Embody the qualities of Ted Lasso: believe, foster trust, and demonstrate kindness, empathy, optimism, curiosity, and vulnerability.
• Lead Beyond Explorer.
• Set the technical direction across teams beyond Explorer; own objectives that span multiple teams and align with divisional and organizational goals; drive the strategy, planning, decision-making, and execution required for success.
• Lead major initiatives that involve multiple teams and systems; align both technical and non-technical stakeholders, clearly communicate trade-offs and risks, and represent engineering in cross-organizational discussions with product and leadership.
• Champion secure coding practices at a systemic level, identifying vulnerabilities across the product, and treat data privacy and access control as organization-wide priorities.
• Organize and lead incident responses, involving the appropriate personnel and delegating effectively; lead post-incident reviews including root cause analysis and actionable prevention items; ensure follow-through until learnings are shared and remediation is complete.
• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience showcasing full-stack fluency and a proven track record of delivering in production across diverse languages and technology stacks.
• Experience bringing a product from beta to general availability, managing the operational, quality, and cross-functional demands of a production launch.
• Demonstrated experience in promoting secure coding practices, data privacy principles, and access control patterns in production systems.
• A test-driven mindset with experience in writing, maintaining, and directing test strategy at the team or product level.
• A history of effective collaboration with product, data science, and R&D teams, bridging technical and domain-specific perspectives across various disciplines.
• Profound, hands-on expertise in critical technical domains with a proven ability to lead system design, architectural patterns, and engineering best practices; your solid technical judgment informs key decisions.
• Experience with event-driven and asynchronous processing patterns; a strong understanding of the trade-offs between different event-driven architectures and the ability to justify one choice over another.
• Capability to reason across OLAP and OLTP data architectures and make sound design decisions for dependent systems.
• Comfort in making informed decisions with incomplete information; able to design long-term architectures with scale, reliability, security, and maintainability as key concerns, and clearly articulate the explored trade-offs and alternatives.
• Proficient in communicating and defending well-reasoned solutions through written documentation, sharing context, discussing considered alternatives, and clarifying conclusions reached.
• Health, vision, and dental insurance with 100% of premiums covered for you and eligible family members.
• Retirement benefits that include a 5% employer match.
• A flexible unlimited PTO policy.
• Generous paid parental leave.
• Pre-tax commuter benefits.
