Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ukraine.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical vision and strategy for a dynamic product area, making informed decisions regarding architecture and technology direction.

• Propel the integration of AI and machine learning solutions to streamline customer support workflows and boost operational efficiency across the platform.

• Lead a team of skilled engineers who deliver code and address challenging engineering issues, upholding a high standard for technical excellence.

• Convert broad business objectives into tangible engineering projects. Own the technical roadmap from initial conception to final delivery, managing inter-team dependencies and mitigating risks.

• Promote the responsible use of AI development tools within engineering teams — demonstrating effective usage, establishing best practices, and mentoring engineers to enhance productivity without compromising code quality or security.

• Advocate for enhancements in system observability, performance, and reduction of technical debt, extending your influence beyond your immediate team.

• Define best practices for deployment, alerting, and on-call health. Take comprehensive ownership of the platform's stability, identifying root causes of issues and implementing preventive measures within your scope and beyond.

• Foster alignment among product, design, and operations teams. Proactively address bottlenecks and make decisive trade-offs to safeguard system architecture from conflicting organizational priorities.

• Mentor and elevate the engineers around you. Delegate challenging opportunities, lead cross-team reviews, and cultivate a culture of strong technical excellence.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in the software engineering industry with a proven history of architecting and delivering large-scale backend systems in production environments.

• Demonstrated experience in establishing technical direction for a product or platform area, including authorship of architecture documentation and driving consensus among senior stakeholders.

• Extensive expertise in designing and managing distributed systems — including microservices, event-driven architectures, and high-throughput APIs at scale.

• Strong proficiency in one or more backend programming languages (Python, Go, Java, C#, or similar) along with a solid understanding of performance, concurrency, and reliability trade-offs.

• Experience with public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure) and modern container orchestration technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker, cri-o).

• Proven capability to lead and influence a team of engineers, including establishing technical standards, conducting design reviews, and facilitating execution.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills — capable of clearly articulating the team's technical strategy to leadership and aligning cross-functional partners.
