Staff Software Engineer, Ads Engineering – AI-Native

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define the technical vision for Life360’s Ads AdServer and Exchange platform, ensuring it scales effectively to handle over 20 billion daily events while meeting strict latency and availability criteria.

• Lead architectural decisions that enhance system resilience, fault tolerance, and performance in distributed, multi-data center environments.

• Raise the engineering standards by establishing benchmarks for design quality, scalability, observability, and operational excellence.

• Foster revenue growth through the integration of demand and supply partners, enhancing Real-Time Bidding and auction functionalities.

• Collaborate with Product and Design teams to unveil new monetization opportunities via innovative ad formats and platform features.

• Anticipate scaling challenges and proactively devise solutions to mitigate impacts on customers or business performance.

• Oversee complex technical projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment among multiple teams toward clear architectural goals.

• Promote automation and quality practices, including AI-driven API validation and testing methods, to enhance velocity without sacrificing stability.

• Enhance platform reliability by bolstering monitoring, incident response, and root cause analysis practices.

• Guide and mentor senior engineers, serving as a force multiplier to elevate the overall effectiveness and technical expertise of the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is mandatory.

• Over 8 years of experience and profound expertise in Java and multi-threaded system architecture, with a focus on optimizing performance under substantial concurrency.

• Knowledge of AdTech ecosystems, particularly advertiser technologies or Real-Time Bidding frameworks, is highly desirable.

• Mentor team members and contribute to the evolution of team processes, technical standards, and AI-native engineering practices.

• Collaborate with AI (Claude Code) as a primary partner—coordinating agents to scaffold services, generate Infrastructure as Code, draft schema definitions, and expedite code reviews.

• Implement agentic workflows to minimize overall cycle time and operational burden.

• Experience in integrating third-party Demand and Supply partners is advantageous.

• A proven track record of designing and managing high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems at scale.

• Demonstrated success in scaling systems across data centers, including replication strategies and distributed data management.

• Strong judgment in balancing immediate delivery with long-term architectural sustainability.

• Experience in influencing technical strategy across teams without direct authority.

• Proven ability to transform business objectives—especially within advertising or monetization ecosystems—into scalable technical solutions.

• Solid database knowledge with a strong grasp of data consistency, performance trade-offs, and capacity planning.

• Experience in cloud-native environments, preferably AWS infrastructure.

• Comfortable with the entire client flow and its interaction with various business components (Admin, App, Analytics, etc.).

• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to align engineering, product, and business stakeholders around common goals.
