This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of reliability for Volcano from end-to-end: Define and implement SLOs, error budgets, and incident response practices for all Volcano services, including edge deployments, managed Postgres, authentication, real-time processing, storage, and the control plane.
• Design the platform's infrastructure: Create and construct the multi-region Kubernetes infrastructure, networking, and data plane that supports Volcano's edge deployment pipeline and backend-as-a-service capabilities.
• Develop the GitOps and CI/CD framework: Initiate deployment automation, canary pipelines, and preview environment setup using ArgoCD, Helm, and Terraform/Terragrunt, establishing patterns for the broader team to adhere to.
• Expand managed data services: Design, operate, and enhance multi-tenant PostgreSQL clusters, Redis caching layers, and object storage, emphasizing data isolation, performance, and disaster recovery.
• Promote observability from the outset: Equip every Volcano service with meaningful SLIs; create dashboards, alerts, and runbooks utilizing Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana before services launch, rather than post-incident.
• Lead collaborative reliability initiatives: Work alongside the OCTO team, product engineering, and security to integrate reliability and compliance into Volcano's architecture from the start, rather than retrofitting later.
• Establish SRE culture and standards: Guide engineers across Volcano's contributing teams on reliability principles; facilitate postmortems, define on-call protocols, and foster a blameless engineering culture.
• Assess and integrate emerging technologies: Given Volcano's greenfield status, evaluate and make architectural choices regarding edge runtimes, serverless computing, vector databases, and AI-native infrastructure components.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field; significant experience at the Staff or Principal IC level in SRE/Platform Engineering.
• Demonstrated success in building SRE or platform engineering practices for developer-focused platforms or PaaS/SaaS products, preferably at the greenfield stage.
• Extensive Kubernetes knowledge: multi-tenant cluster design, networking (CNI, service mesh, ingress), autoscaling, and security hardening.
• Healthcare benefits
• 401(k) plan
• Short and long-term disability benefits
• Basic life and AD&D insurance
