Staff Product Engineer, Backend – Go, Java

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Transform usage data into revenue. Our billing is based on data, requiring robust metering systems. You will be responsible for creating the systems that track every event, synchronize with payment providers, and ensure invoices are precisely accurate.

• Enhance reliability and manage risks. You will take charge of the platform's reliability, proactively spotting risks before they escalate into incidents. You’ll promote a security-first culture and guarantee our monitoring capabilities are top-notch.

• Mentor others and refine processes. You will set the benchmarks for code quality, testing, and observability. Your role will amplify the efforts of others—mentoring team members, reviewing PRDs for technical feasibility, and simplifying intricate technical designs to align with product objectives.

• Within the first week, you'll deliver your initial piece of production-ready code.

• Within three months, you will enhance our billing system, increasing transparency in usage and empowering our customers to maintain complete control over observability costs. This will include improving cost visibility through usage dashboards and forecasting, as well as strengthening the notification pipeline to ensure timely alerts reach the appropriate stakeholders.

• Within six months, you'll implement new architectural patterns in Go for our billing solution, elevating the standards for reliability and maintainability. You will enhance integrations with marketplace and CRM tools, and actively mentor engineers throughout the organization on billing architecture and third-party integrations.

• Within twelve months, you will become a technical authority for our revenue engineering backend, guiding the team through significant scaling challenges across billing, metering, and marketplace integrations. You will influence the product roadmap by bridging technical limitations with customer requirements—translating usage trends and cost control needs into a dependable, scalable billing infrastructure.

⛳️ Requirements

• (The Big One) Possesses experience with billing systems or usage-based pricing models (experience with the Stripe API is a significant advantage).

• Holds extensive architectural knowledge in constructing and scaling distributed backend systems using Go. Familiarity with Java is a beneficial addition!

• Skillfully utilizes AI and agentic coding tools to accelerate development, applying profound technical judgment to validate, refine, and take ownership of the final product.

• Recognizes the critical importance of data accuracy when finances are at stake. You conduct thorough testing, understanding that a bug in this area impacts the bottom line.

• Exhibits a "product mindset" for internal tools. You believe that the tools utilized by our employees should be as polished as those used by our customers.

• Naturally serves as a mentor and cultural leader. You have demonstrated a history of enhancing team processes, fostering psychological safety, and improving the quality of work around you.

• Lives and breathes Observability. As an expert in OpenTelemetry and monitoring, you contribute to enhancing observability not only in our product but also within our engineering practices.
