Staff Product Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Acquire an in-depth understanding of Sonatype’s multi-product developer platform, user personas, and essential *jobs to be done*.

• Collaborate closely with PMs and engineers to co-develop user flows and experience direction — while UX guides the thought process, the outputs are crafted and refined collectively, rather than in isolation.

• Translate intricate information architecture, developer workflows, permissions models, and multi-product interactions into clear, intuitive experience patterns.

• Construct user and product flows in Miro that accurately reflect real constraints, technical realities, and team feedback.

• Formulate conceptual designs and UX architectures for new features and ongoing, iterative enhancements — rather than extensive redesigns.

• Develop coded UX prototypes utilizing Claude Code, VS Code, GitHub workflows, and front-end principles (HTML/CSS/JS/React). These prototypes simulate actual product experiences.

• Ensure your prototypes are sufficiently structured so that AI tools can derive engineering specifications, scope definitions, and implementation requirements directly from your code diffs.

• Perform light, pragmatic research (interviews, surveys, UAT, quick validation) as necessary — and recognize when to move forward without research to maintain momentum.

• Engage in early and frequent collaboration to align constraints, scope, design direction, and technical feasibility.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in a Product company (not limited to services/agency experience).

• Proven ability to collaborate closely with engineers; a hybrid UX/engineering background is a significant advantage.

• Proficient in conducting lightweight research (interviews, surveys, usability tests, UAT).

• Capable of selecting the appropriate level of research for the situation — steering clear of slow, academic approaches.

• Strong UX judgment, particularly in complex technical environments.

• Ability to simplify aggressively within real constraints.

• Collaborative, positive, and non-defensive — excels in dynamic workflows.

• Clear communicator who effectively engages with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• AI Mindset: Inquisitive, experimental, and eager to integrate AI into design workflows. Comfortable leveraging AI for structure, exploration, prototyping, and iteration.
