Staff Optical Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take charge of delivering optical subsystems to the instrument program.

• Oversee and manage detailed optical error budgets along with performance metrics.

• Work in collaboration with systems engineering to assist in the management of cross-functional technical budgets.

• Establish and drive the strategic direction for the assembly and testing of optical instruments.

• Provide support for functional, performance, and environmental testing at both subsystem and instrument levels.

• Advocate for continuous enhancement of testing methodologies and best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Ph.D. with over 5 years of experience in developing imaging systems and infrared remote sensing instruments; or M.S. with more than 8 years of industry experience; or B.S. with a decade of industry experience.

• Proficient in optical design and analysis tools (Zemax, Code V, FRED).

• Significant hands-on experience in precision optical metrology, AI&T execution, and root cause analysis.

• Software skills in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C++).

• Proven technical leadership and project management capabilities.

• Preference for candidates with the ability to obtain security clearance.
