This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take technical ownership of the Gateway Android application.
• Manage mobile projects from inception to completion.
• Analyze product requirements, define project scope, and make architectural choices.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Develop robust production-level code.
• Facilitate technical design discussions and conduct code reviews.
• Provide mentorship to other engineers.
• Contribute to establishing sustainable engineering practices for a safety-critical mobile platform.
• 12+ years of overall mobile software development experience, with a BA/BS in Computer Science or a related technical field, or 8+ years with an MS, including at least 3 years in a Senior or Staff position.
• In-depth knowledge of Kotlin, the Android Jetpack ecosystem, Hilt, Coroutines, and contemporary UI frameworks such as Jetpack Compose.
• Proven experience in architecting dependable, long-running mobile applications, covering background processes, foreground services, process termination, state restoration, battery efficiency, and memory management.
• Practical experience with Bluetooth Low Energy on Android.
• Strong understanding of API styles and messaging protocols like REST, GraphQL, MQTT, or similar pub/sub technologies.
• Exhibited technical leadership capabilities, including driving architecture across various teams, drafting design documents, mentoring engineers, and influencing stakeholders without formal authority.
