Staff Materials Scientist – Thin Film Coatings

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Direct the design and creation of sophisticated thin-film coating solutions for optical, mechanical, magnetic, and electronic uses.

• Innovate and refine thin-film materials and multilayer structures.

• Engage in hands-on thin-film deposition utilizing PVD, PECVD, and other vacuum-based techniques.

• Design and carry out thin-film characterization, linking structure with performance outcomes.

• Work in partnership with equipment, process, and product teams.

• Contribute insights on equipment design and process enhancement.

• Mentor junior engineers.

• Resolve coating challenges including adhesion, stress, and defect issues.

• Record coating architectures and process parameters.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Master's degree or higher in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related discipline; an advanced degree is preferred.

• Extensive practical experience in thin-film deposition and coating development.

• Profound knowledge of optical, scratch-resistant, magnetic, or semiconductor coatings.

• Strong expertise in thin-film characterization methods.

• Capability to create coating solutions that fulfill functional and reliability specifications.
