Staff GIS Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Lead the geospatial data and tooling requirements for a large-scale initiative

• Acquire geospatial data across various modalities

• Develop geospatial data automation and tools within an AI/ML pipeline for innovative applications

• Investigate and collect data for specific regions from diverse sources, including imagery and other raster data, vector data, and point clouds

• Locate and obtain data from free and public domain sources, while establishing and nurturing partnerships with commercial data providers

• Oversee the coverage, recency, quality, and cost of the sourced data

• Create and utilize automated tools (e.g., integrating open source libraries like GDAL and proprietary tools) to clean, resize, reformat, and align data for internal stakeholders

• Accountable for tools that automatically post-process the outputs of a geospatial AI/ML pipeline for use by other teams

• Collaborate with AI/ML teams to provide diverse data required for developing new machine learning models

• Work in partnership with Pipeline and Product teams to ensure they have the necessary data resources.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master's degree in GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline

• Over 4 years of relevant industry experience within a dynamic, high-growth technology environment

• Proficient in GIS modalities and formats, including at least some experience with orthoimagery (e.g., GeoTIFF), point clouds like LiDAR (e.g., LAS/LAZ), vector data (e.g., ESRI Shapefiles, GeoJSON, OSM), and raster data containing elevation and terrain information such as DTM, DSM, and DEMs, as well as land cover information

• Software engineering experience, including the design and architecture of software solutions

• Proficiency in Python for automating routine tasks and/or contributing to the existing toolset is essential.
