This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of and enhance the architecture of our primary platform, which includes a React frontend, Node.js/Express APIs, Postgres, and AWS ECS infrastructure.
• Lead our transition from JavaScript to TypeScript by establishing patterns, tools, and standards for the team to adhere to.
• Design and expand our ETL pipeline along with a configuration-driven AI integration framework, facilitating quicker and more reliable deployment of AI-powered features by engineers.
• Oversee technical design reviews, create architecture decision records (ADRs), and ensure that engineering choices are well-documented and justifiable.
• Identify and address systemic technical debt, taking ownership of the plan to resolve it rather than merely flagging it.
• Define and implement the technical strategy for integrating machine learning and AI models into our core platform, ensuring it meets standards of scalability, performance, and reliability.
• Mentor engineers at all levels through pairing, reviewing, coaching, and enhancing the team's overall skills.
• Establish and uphold engineering standards related to code quality, testing practices, observability, on-call runbooks, and incident response.
• Act as a technical resource and strategic partner for product, clinical, and business stakeholders.
• Contribute to defining the engineering hiring criteria and engage in the interview process.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership and product teams to scope, sequence, and mitigate risks associated with large technical projects.
• Lead by example in production support by defining runbooks, conducting post-mortems, and driving systemic fixes following incidents.
• Work across UI, API, database, and infrastructure layers, possessing genuine expertise in at least two of these areas.
• Minimum of 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or staff-level position.
• Extensive knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript within a production full-stack context.
• Strong proficiency in React, Node.js/Express, and Postgres, with the ability to analyze performance, reliability, and maintainability at each layer.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and managing distributed systems or data pipeline architectures on AWS, with a focus on ECS, RDS, S3, and Lambda.
• Proven record of technical mentorship, having significantly improved the skills of engineers around you.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of drafting architecture documents, leading design reviews, and briefing non-technical executives all in a single day.
• Experience in engineering roles at a growth-stage startup, understanding the balance between speed and sustainability.
• Familiarity with ETL pipelines, AI/LLM integration patterns, or data-intensive systems is highly advantageous.
• Extensive experience in architecting and deploying production-grade ML/AI systems, focusing on LLM integration and model lifecycle management.
• Fully remote – work from anywhere within the U.S.
