This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) by spearheading the complete development and implementation of our Risk & Underwriting AI models, effectively translating actuarial and healthcare financial risk expertise into high-performance AI systems and comprehensive evaluation frameworks.
• Define the technical roadmap and oversee the creation of machine learning models aimed at healthcare financial risk stratification and financial underwriting.
• Develop and promote best practices for model construction, validation, and thorough back testing/benchmarking within the data science organization to ensure the delivery of high-performance models while maintaining model stability and alignment.
• Guide and mentor junior data scientists, cultivating a culture of rigorous research, quality engineering, and innovation.
• Collaborate with clinicians to convert medical insights into data-driven hypotheses and engage with Product/Executive teams to synchronize technical capabilities with market opportunities.
• Partner with Engineering to craft the next generation of our platform’s quality and extensibility, ensuring optimal performance for millions of patients.
• Represent Prealize Health’s technical knowledge to external strategic partners and remain updated on the latest literature in ML, Actuarial Science, and Biostatistics.
• PhD and/or MS in Statistics, Biostatistics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
• 8–10+ years of experience in developing and deploying commercial-grade data science products, demonstrating a solid record of technical leadership.
• Extensive experience in building and validating models specifically for healthcare underwriting applications.
• Proficient in Python and distributed computing technologies (PySpark/Spark/SQL).
• Skilled in utilizing AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) to expedite development cycles and improve code quality.
• Advanced understanding of model evaluation metrics (e.g., Gini, lift, calibration), back testing frameworks, and validation procedures for high-stakes predictive modeling.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, influence technical roadmaps, and address complex challenges in high-dimensional datasets.
• Exceptional skill in simplifying intricate technical strategies for executive stakeholders and external partners.
