Staff Data Scientist – Bodily Injury Claims

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create and manage the mathematical and technical infrastructure for a scalable clustering engine that categorizes claims based on clinical, legal, and financial characteristics.

• Collaborate with Machine Learning Engineers to convert prototypes into optimized production systems, and engage with MLOps to facilitate automated retraining, monitoring, and management of the model lifecycle.

• Work alongside Data and Application Engineering teams to establish APIs and data contracts that support internal tools such as attorney and physician benchmarking, in addition to fraud detection systems.

• Construct advanced representations of claims utilizing both structured data (e.g., ICD codes, geographic information, indemnity and legal expenses) and unstructured data (e.g., adjuster notes, medical records, legal documents).

• Serve as a subject matter expert within the wider engineering organization, ensuring coherence between data science initiatives, system architecture, and standards for production reliability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years in Data Science with a proven history of deploying models in production settings.

• Extensive experience with Bodily Injury claims, including over 4 years of practical involvement in Workers’ Compensation or General Liability.

• Knowledge of claim lifecycles, medical billing (ICD/CPT), litigation processes, and reserve dynamics is essential.

• Strong command of Python and a solid foundation in software engineering principles, including system design, CI/CD pipelines, and API development/versioning.

• Proficient in unsupervised learning techniques (clustering, dimensionality reduction) and NLP methodologies (transformers, embeddings, LLM-based approaches) for analyzing intricate, unstructured data.

• Demonstrated capability to lead and execute projects across Data Science, Engineering, DevOps, and Product teams.
