Staff Data Platform Engineer – AI Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of performance tuning on the StarRocks serving layer through AI-supported query profiling.

• Develop and strengthen data pipelines that facilitate government cloud investigations.

• Act as a second independent operator of the GovCloud data infrastructure to mitigate single points of failure.

• Leverage AI-assisted debugging and log analysis to address production issues and implement root-cause solutions.

• Manage and troubleshoot a regulated, high-availability government cloud deployment.

• Collaborate with Forward Deployed Engineering, Product teams, and the wider Data Platform organization.

• Engage in weekly incident and infrastructure reviews, provide async updates via Slack, participate in sprint planning, and conduct post-incident retrospectives.

• Ensure consistency between the government cloud environment and the commercial platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is necessary for access to government cloud data.

• Practical experience in operating distributed OLAP or serving-layer systems like StarRocks, Trino, ClickHouse, or similar technologies.

• Proficiency in query tuning and performance optimization at scale.

• Demonstrated experience in ensuring data pipeline reliability and handling incident responses.

• Comfort with AI tools such as Claude, Cursor, or similar for debugging, code review, and documentation purposes.

• Ability to take ownership of unfamiliar production infrastructures independently.

• Capability to utilize AI-assisted research and code exploration for rapid learning.

• Willingness and readiness to assume on-call responsibilities with minimal supervision.

• Applied AI proficiency is expected and will be assessed during the interview process.
