This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Italy, +4 more countries.
• Lead a team of 1–2 engineers in Data Engineering, overseeing delivery, quality, and career development.
• Manage and enhance the layered BigQuery warehouse, dbt transformation layer, and semantic layer that define company metrics.
• Take charge of ingestion and orchestration processes using Airflow and dlt, including the transition to serverless CDC.
• Ensure the reliability, quality, and observability of data pipelines.
• Oversee self-service BI and reporting tools such as Tableau, Metabase, and the transition to Lightdash/dashboards-as-code.
• Establish and uphold data governance that includes data quality, lineage, documentation, PII, access controls, and self-service standards.
• Propel AI-assisted engineering and production AI data pipelines across the team.
• Collaborate with the Director of Data Engineering & AI, Data & BI, Product, and business stakeholders to translate priorities into a strategic data roadmap.
• Write code, review architectural designs, and set technical direction, standards, and roadmap as a hands-on player-coach.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in data engineering or analytics engineering within rapidly growing product companies.
• Proven experience in designing and evolving cloud data warehouses and pipelines; expertise in BigQuery/GCP is highly advantageous.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor engineers while remaining actively involved in hands-on tasks.
• Strong proficiency in SQL.
• Hands-on experience with dbt, modern ELT/ingestion tools such as dlt, and workflow orchestration platforms like Airflow.
• Familiarity with BI and dashboarding tools, including Tableau, Metabase, Lightdash, or similar platforms.
• Experience in constructing a semantic/metrics layer on top of a data warehouse.
• Proven track record in establishing data governance that encompasses quality, lineage, documentation, PII, access management, and self-service.
• Demonstrable experience utilizing AI-assisted engineering and integrating AI in data pipelines, along with experience in promoting adoption within a team.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proficient in English.
