
Staff Data Engineer – AI Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take charge of performance optimization on the StarRocks serving layer by utilizing AI-assisted query profiling to detect and resolve slow query patterns.
• Develop and strengthen data pipelines that support government cloud investigations.
• Evolve into a second engineer capable of independently managing and troubleshooting the serving layer.
• Mitigate single points of failure and decrease incident response times for GovCloud data infrastructure.
• Apply AI-assisted debugging and log analysis to address production issues and implement root-cause solutions.
• Assess incidents, infrastructure tasks, and compliance milestones during weekly team meetings.
• Deliver asynchronous daily updates regarding pipeline health, ticket statuses, and any roadblocks.
• Engage in sprint planning and take ownership of assigned workstreams.
• Facilitate retrospectives following production incidents and update operational runbooks accordingly.
• Collaborate with Forward Deployed Engineering and Product teams to ensure consistency between government cloud and commercial platforms.
• U.S. citizenship is mandatory due to requirements for government cloud data access.
• Practical experience with distributed OLAP or serving-layer systems such as StarRocks, Trino, ClickHouse, or similar technologies.
• Proven experience in query tuning and performance enhancement at scale.
• Background in ensuring data pipeline reliability and managing incident responses.
• Proficiency in utilizing AI tools like Claude, Cursor, or similar for debugging, code review, and documentation tasks.
• Capability to independently take charge of unfamiliar production infrastructure.
• Skill in leveraging AI-assisted research and code exploration for quick acclimatization.
• Readiness and ability to handle on-call responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated fluency in applied AI; candidates will be assessed on their AI knowledge during the interview process.
