Staff Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and scale core systems — Create, build, and take ownership of the backend services that drive our no-code AI platform, spanning from the API layer to the data pipeline.

• Lead authentication and identity infrastructure — Manage our SSO, SAML, and OIDC integrations, ensuring robust enterprise-grade authentication that scales alongside our customer base.

• Establish technical direction — Define system design patterns, service boundaries, data modeling strategies, and long-term infrastructure plans.

• Mentor and uplift the team — Enhance team capabilities through design reviews, collaborative work, knowledge-sharing, and establishing industry best practices across backend engineering.

• Enhance reliability and observability — Proactively identify bottlenecks, optimize performance, and advance our infrastructure to preemptively address potential issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of backend engineering experience, with a proven history of functioning at the Staff level or as a technical lead on intricate, production systems.

• Extensive knowledge of SSO, SAML, and OIDC — you have developed or managed identity and authentication systems, rather than merely utilizing them.

• Comprehensive understanding of identity provider (IdP) architecture and enterprise authentication patterns.

• Strong proficiency in Python, with experience in FastAPI or similar contemporary frameworks.

• In-depth knowledge of distributed systems design, database architecture, and scaling methodologies.

• Practical experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Postgres, Supabase, SQLAlchemy).

• Solid expertise in cloud infrastructure (AWS: EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities change rapidly and the impact of work is immediate.

• Experience with entitlements management, usage-based metering, or billing systems (e.g., Stripe Billing, Lago, or custom metering pipelines).
