Staff Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Align Engineering with High-Value Challenges. Collaborate closely with product and engineering leadership to suggest initiatives and implement significant technical modifications.

• Team Collaboration. Work across teams, providing guidance to senior developers in managing and minimizing technical debt.

• Building and Scaling Global Platforms. Develop and sustain products that handle billions of page views monthly, ensuring optimal scalability and performance.

• Tackling Complex Technical Issues. Collaborate with engineers from European offices to deliver solutions that affect millions of users.

• Ownership of Development Processes. Engage in product design, write and review code, and advocate for quality, security, and performance with a DevOps perspective.

• Engage and Learn with the OLX Engineering Community.

• Strategic Thinker. Capable of aligning technical decisions with the organization’s strategy and taking ownership of the technical direction while influencing others without direct authority.

• Self-Motivated Critical Thinker. Recognize what needs to be accomplished to meet unit goals and take the initiative to make it happen.

• Proficient Communicator. Able to articulate complex technical concepts in English to diverse teams and influence decisions for more significant impact.

• Expertise in Scalable Systems. Experience with large-scale web applications, possessing an economic-thinking mindset, and the ability to design well-structured, future-proof domain systems that align with business objectives.

• Strong Coding and Computer Science Foundations. On average, you will be expected to develop new ideas and review others’ work for two-thirds of your time.

• Solid background in Golang, Java/Kotlin, or PHP (preferred technologies). Flexible and capable of adapting to evolving projects.

• Technical Leader and Mentor. Support and guide engineers by setting a strong example. As a Staff Engineer, you will be a role model, leading through your actions and expertise.

• In-Depth Technical Knowledge. Proficient in CI/CD, RESTful APIs, AWS, databases, and one or more of the following: high-performance scalable systems, monolith-to-microservices migration, or taxonomies.
