Staff Autonomy Engineer – Drone

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Take charge of the autonomy software framework for Gather products, encompassing perception, localization, and inventory scanning processes that operate on vehicle-mounted embedded computing systems.

β€’ Play a key role in shaping the architecture of the product autonomy stack as it evolves to accommodate a wider range of vehicle types, facility designs, and customer setups.

β€’ Create documentation for current systems.

β€’ Strategize future updates.

β€’ Lead and contribute to design enhancements and testing initiatives.

β€’ Address challenges throughout the autonomy framework.

β€’ Develop and implement algorithms that accurately detect, identify, and log inventory locations as forklifts and drones navigate through warehouse aisles under varying lighting conditions, occlusion, and movement.

β€’ Enhance scan precision and coverage through algorithmic advancements, improved sensor integration, and closer collaboration with machine learning perception models.

β€’ Construct and uphold the software systems responsible for managing scan activation, location mapping, and data transfer to the cloud platform.

β€’ Work alongside hardware and field teams to identify and rectify issues in deployed systems, utilizing log data and field insights to foster improvements.


⛳️ Requirements

β€’ A minimum of 7 years in software engineering, with at least 3 years dedicated to developing autonomy, robotics, or perception systems that operate on physical hardware in a production setting.

β€’ Proficient in C++ and Python, with a background in creating software for embedded or resource-limited computational platforms.

β€’ Practical experience with computer vision pipelines, including camera-based detection, localization, or tracking in real-world scenarios.

β€’ Experienced in developing and troubleshooting software on deployed systems, including log-based analysis and field iterations.

β€’ Comfortable functioning at the Staff level: establishing technical direction, making significant architectural choices, and assuming comprehensive ownership of a system.
